Welcome to a program where passion meets purpose, nestled among the vibrant green tapestry of Guatemala’s lush forests. The Wildlife Rescue Centre, a pioneering sanctuary, stands as a beacon of hope against the illegal pet trade. Having grown from modest beginnings into a world-renowned haven, it now accepts over 500 animals annually, representing more than 40 species.
With Guatemala’s wildlife facing threats from habitat destruction, poaching, and the illegal wildlife trade, our involvement becomes ever more crucial. Once abundant species, such as the scarlet macaw, have dwindled alarmingly, underscoring the urgency of the mission. This is not just a rescue centre – they’re a movement to protect and revive the heartbeats of the jungle.
Through education and spreading knowledge, the Centre inspires locals and international guests to join hands in conserving nature’s wealth.
Designed for veterinary professionals, students, and veterinary technicians/nursing students, the two-week medical placement melds theory with practice. Your journey will include:

Many resident animals, rescued from smugglers, require extensive care and attention, having been separated from the wild at a young age. The Wildlife Rehabilitation Medicine course offers more than just academic learning—it is a crucial stepping stone towards active participation in wildlife conservation efforts.
